Trail Run

Today I did a 4 mile trail run out at Wilson's Creek. I have gone out there before to run the 5 mile loop (road) but today I actually ran THROUGH the battlefield. It was awesome! The weather was great and the scenery was even better. I saw turkey and plenty of deer - they must be on the move since its the first day of rifle season. I'm no history buff, but I was there with one. We passed a log cabin from the 1800's, ran by where General Lyon was killed, saw the sinkhole where they put dead bodies, and ran up the "bloody hill". It was a blast!
I have been interested in trail running for a while but I am not familiar with the local trails. So, I got proactive, joined a group, and each Saturday we go to a different trail in the Springfield area. I talked to our instructor today about some trails in Arkansas and St. Louis. I can't wait to explore new areas.
I have enjoyed trails ever since I was younger when my family used to hike out at Pickle Springs or Hawn State Park, Elephant Rocks, etc. Farmington is surrounded by fun trails. I just hate having to drive to a location. But, I really enjoy trail running so I am going to try to convince myself that the drive isn't bad. I hope to do much more trail running soon!
